How Far Can a Penny Go?

Sarah, along with Pastor Flohr, explore some of the places to which our mite box pennies travel. This particular penny is going all the way to Ukraine, where it will help provide Bibles. Other pennies will travel to such exotic places as Thailand, Nicaragua, India, and Angola. Some will stay closer to home, travelling to northern Canada where they will help provide Vacation Bible School materials for northern communities.

Wherever these pennies go, they will help do the work of sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with other people. They go with our prayers that they will bring the joy and peace of Jesus with them.

LWML-Canada, as the official auxiliary to Lutheran Church- Canada , serves the people of our country and the world at large by our support of mission endeavors.

Let each of us thank our Lord and Savior for the many blessings we have received by sharing ourselves physically and spiritually through our concern for others.

Please read the following League Pledge and take it to heart.

In fervent gratitude for the Saviour's dying love and His blood-bought gift of redemption, we dedicate ourselves to Him with all that we are and have and in obedience to His call for workers in the harvest fields, we pledge Him our willing service wherever and whenever He has need of us. We consecrate to our Saviour our hands to work for Him, our feet to go on His errands, our voice to sing His praises, our lips to proclaim His redeeming love, Our silver and our gold to extend His kingdom, our will to do His will and every power of our life to the great task of bringing the lost and the erring into eternal fellowship with Him. Amen

MISSION PROJECTS 2006-2009
LWML - CANADA

The voting body established a Mission Grant Total of $100,000 for 2006-2009 and then selected the following mission projects to receive grants. The final grant listed below received only half of the requested amount to keep the total at $100,000.

Sewing Centre, Nicaragua: $ 10,000

• God has inspired the Mision Cristiana en Nicaragua to find ways to meet the social needs of women and at the same time provide opportunities to share the Gospel with them. This grant will help train these women so they can receive an adequate income to support both family and congregation.

Missionary to Costa Rica: $ 10,000

• After learning about the success of the Lutheran Church in Nicaragua, people in Costa Rica have asked Lutheran Church-Canada to provide them with a missionary so they also may learn about the Good News of Jesus. This mission grant will help to provide funding for one missionary to Costa Rica over a two-year period.

Maternity Ward Equipment, Tanzania Lutheran Hospital: $ 4,000

• The Lutheran Church of Tanzania seeks to make their Christian hospital not only one of bodily healing but also a place of love, peace and evangelism as they serve the people of Mtisi. Items such as incubators, hospital beds, and the Gospel of St. John (in Swahili), are required to meet the needs of the Lutheran Health Centre. This grant would provide service to about 5,000 people both physically and spiritually.

Missionary Support - Thailand: $ 10,000

• Ninety-eight percent of the 60 million people in Thailand are Buddhists and animists. God has opened the door for mission outreach in the Phang District. This grant will provide financial support for such things as food, lodging, and transportation to native pastor Rev. Chujit in this outreach ministry.

Interim Mission Opportunity Fund (overseas and within Canada): $ 30,000

• Sometimes the Lord presents unique and unexpected opportunities for His harvest. This grant provides funds for these opportunities.

Shipping Costs for Medical Missions: $ 10,000

• Medical Missions is an ongoing program in the Ontario District of LWML-Canada. Medical supplies and baby layettes are collected and shipped to missionaries around the world. They are then distributed in medical clinics and in this way God's love is shown in a tangible way. This grant will help support up to half the shipping costs over a three-year period.

Missionary to Matagalpa, Nicaragua: $ 10,000

• Successful in reaching out to the people of Matagalpa over the past three years, Rev. Hector Morales and his wife Cristina share the Gospel in three communities. This grant will support Rev. Morales as the mission expands.

Van for Ukraine: $5,000

• Krasnoperekopsk and two other mission stations of the established Lutheran Church in Ukraine wish to extend their mission outreach efforts but lack of adequate transportions makes it difficult to do so. An eight-passenger van will facilitate a broader involvement in mission work.

Assisted Funding for PAT Program (Pastors with Alternate Training): $ 6,000

• This grant will help provide training for pastor-elect students from geographically remote congregations and special ethical/linguistic communities of believers.

TOTAL $100,000
