Mission Statement & Philosophy
Our Nursery School and Kindergarten is rooted and founded on the grace of God in Christ and shines with the care and love of Jesus.
It is a welcoming place, open to children, parents and visitors. It is a safe and caring environment that nourishes growth in all areas.
Christian teaching and content will provide a foundation for your child's growth in faith.
We will respect each child's uniqueness and will address each individual's developmental needs.
Our task is to prepare your child for school by promoting pro-social behaviour, self-esteem, creativity, confidence
and a desire to learn.
We are managed by a Nursery School Board, which is made up of volunteers from
Christ Our King Lutheran Church and one parent representative who is elected by the parents.
It is the Board's duty to look after the operation of the school, to work with the
families and staff, to provide materials, support and encouragement.
Staff Qualifications
All teachers are certified Early Childhood Educators.
Assistant teachers are not required to have their ECE but share in the joy of
working with children and have some experience doing so. All staff including
volunteers and substitute teachers must have a thorough background check
completed by the Police Department prior to working within the centre. Most
importantly, all Christ Our King Nursery School staff work hard together
to provide quality education based on God's love.
Education Programs

- Learning begins with the Whole Child
- Through self-discovery, cooperative play and guided learning opportunities, your child will participate in a variety of stimulating and enjoyable learning experiences at Christ Our King Nursery & Kindergarten. From singing to Bible stories; outdoor play to pre-reading and printing activities - these varied learning experiences are aimed to support the development of the whole child. We know a child's world and development- intellectual, spiritual, social, emotional and physical - are closely connected. Our objective is to support the growth of your child in these foundational areas through an integrated educational program.
- Focusing on Each Child's Unique Needs
- We recognize early learning and development is best supported by providing individual attention to the unique learning needs of your child. We work to accommodate the rate and way in which your child learns. This can be best accomplished by maintaining low student to teacher ratios. Our nursery program has a ratio of one adult for every 8 children. Our junior and senior kindergarten class has 1 teacher for each 10 children. Our small class sizes facilitate and support learning.
- Emphasizing the Building Blocks of Literacy and Numeracy
- Our literacy goals for each child include a strong base of language concepts; alphabet and letter sounds, concepts of print, and a love and appreciation for stories and books. Literacy benchmarks in kindergarten provide parents with specific learning expectations to track their child's emerging literacy skills. Through hands on experiences and playful discovery your child will begin to build an understanding of mathematical concepts. To encourage 'mathematical play' our learning centres offer a range of activities including counting, sorting, measuring, and patterning.
- Partnering with Parents to Support Learning at School & Home
- At Christ Our King Nursery and Kindergarten we encourage a partnership between home and school. We work to build a strong connection between our school community and your family. This connection exists as parents and teachers model and instill similar values, informed by our Christian faith. Also, frequent communication including daily contact with parents, weekly agendas for learning, monthly newsletters, and parent-teacher interviews inform and encourage parents on how to support early learning for their child.
- A Nurturing and Caring Environment
- At Christ Our King Nursery and Kindergarten we have created a caring and loving environment. Your child will feel safe, secure and cared for. Our close knit community is, in many ways, an extension of your family. Christ Our King Nursery and Kindergarten is a "GREAT PLACE FOR YOUR CHILD TO GROW".
